Foreign Correspondents: Really Really Really Good Thai Food.

Foreign Correspondents: Really Really Really Good Thai Food.

Within the confines of the vibrantly-painted walls of Foreign Correspondents, is simply put, really really really good Thai food. There are no gimmicks --- no over-the-top décor, or extra-large menus with paragraph-long descriptions. Simple, clean and neatly-packaged is the presentation of choice for this Heights eatery, and it renders the dining experience one of the freshest and most unique offerings within the city limits.

Take the Stir-Fried Pumpkin with Thai Basil, for instance. The description lists exactly what one might envision the dish to look like, were it left solely up to your imagination. “Pumpkin chunks cooked with scrambled eggs, pork, and copious amounts of Thai Basil.” Sounds pretty straightforward, right?

What the description doesn’t tell you, however, is that the dish that is ultimately presented to you is so overwhelmingly delectable, so complex in flavor, that it hardly seems you’re actually eating what you ordered at all. The pumpkin tastes less like pumpkin and more like some majestic and otherworldly mystery vegetable.

On the flipside, the list of specialty cocktails reads like a list of obscure indie-rock bands. The “Tears of the Black Tiger”, a tequila-based offering, is infinitely smooth --- perfect for washing down the entrée of your choosing on a warm Texas evening.

If you’re into casual dining with upscale taste, Foreign Correspondents is definitely a stop you will want to make. They’re open for lunch from 11-3 Tuesday through Friday, dinner from 5-10 on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesday, and 5-11 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There’s also a special brunch menu offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 11-3.
