Bernadine’s fashions itself a reflection of the influence and flavors of the I-10 corridor --- from Louisiana surf to Texas turf, and everything in between. Stationed right next door to another Heights upstart, Hunky Dory, the restaurant is certainly poised to secure a steady foothold as a go-to brunch spot in Houston.
What makes Bernadine’s so unique is an uncanny attention to detail and focus on quality and flavor. For example, the marinated Blue Crab claws, a standout appetizer, are shucked on-site, enveloped in a number of spices and herbs, served ready and bathing in a savory sauce, no peeling necessary. The Blue Crab is a fresh, distinctive finger food that’s both memorable, and make an excellent first course.
And what’s brunch without great cocktails? Bernadine’s fantastically-garnished Bloody Mary is quite the sight--- as well as an array of exquisitely-crafted custom cocktails. The “Breakfast Club”, a blend of rye whiskey, coffee liqueur, vanilla bean and elderflower with a grapefruit garnish is a concoction that will instantly enthrall you for reasons that you won’t quite be able to put your finger on.
Bernadine’s brunch menu is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11-3, and could not be a more perfect way to kick off or cap off a weekend. Be sure to check them out!
