Sunday Funday Guide: 7 Spots to Day Drink In Houston

Sunday Funday Guide: 7 Spots to Day Drink In Houston

There is a reason that Sunday is the only weekend day that rhymes with funday. It means that you are supposed to take advantages of your last sweet day of freedom, and not by cleaning or preparing for the week ahead.

We’ve rounded up some old favorites and fresh picks for your next Sunday Funday.

Wooster’s garden

This totally chill craft cocktail and beer garden is rocking 49 brews on tap. It also comes fully loaded with an incredible lineup of fancified cocktails featuring touches like fresh-squeezed juices, infusions of fruit smoked with wood chips from repurposed whiskey barrels. The barkeeps pull out all the stops here, with showy concoctions that range from the bittersweet and robust to the tropical and Tiki.

The Flat

Hidden away in Montrose, near the intersection of Waugh and West Gray, The Flat is a much-loved neighborhood lounge that’s popular with the inner-loop’s laid-back, alternative crowd.

Set in a converted, retro-cool house, The Flat draws a diverse mix that come to hear the DJ spin house to hip hop music, sip on the lounge’s famous frozen Mojitos and kick back with friends.

Irish Cowboy

Ireland meets Hill Country at this Midtown pub and beer garden pairing house-smoked barbecue with Irish and Texas beers from 80 taps. The lively space includes indoor and outdoor seating, Texas-themed murals from a local artist, a live music program and pet days on the patio.

 Rosemont Houston

This upscale cocktail lounge is right in the heart of the neighborhood that inspires its name, a play on the word Montrose. The two-story structure features an intimate downstairs bar and finely crafted cocktails, while the large upstairs terrace includes plush, tent-covered private cabanas where patrons can splurge on bottle service. Sunday funday brunch with DJ lettuce prey and guests.

The Dogwood

Midtown is the place to be with new venues and constant openings but The Dogwood has been keeping party goers happy for years with its casual vibe and multiple-levels of wrap-around decking with great views of Midtown on the top level. It’s also a great spot for brunch with everything from Migas to stuff French toast to soothe your hangover from the night before.

          Axelrad Beer Garden

There are 31 beers on tap, plus packaged brews and wine, at this Midtown watering hole in a historic venue with an expansive garden patio. Food trucks and Luigi’s pizza next door supply the eats.

Bar Boheme

The unpretentious, laid-back spot is popular with nearby residents and the post-college crowd that come for happy hour specials, free WiFi and live jazz music.

The cozy space—a refurbished, historical building—features exposed brick walls, restored steel-frame windows and light fixtures Holleman imported from Europe. There’s also a sleek wraparound bar, couches, a funky wine bottle chandelier and artwork by local rising-star artists. Outside, ample patio spaces give guests a welcoming place to relax on nice evenings. Stop by for wallet-friendly frozen mojitos, house-made sangria and light bites.
