Insomnia Events and C3 Presents, the juggernauts behind Electric Daisy Carnival and Lollapalooza, respectively, are going medieval. Clad in menacing chainmail armor with lances at the ready, they’re leading the charge to put on the first music festival that offers a medieval theme. By shoehorning modern artists into the 14th century, Middlelands – founded in 2017 – is the best example of an anachronism since A Knight’s Tale.
Taking place on Texas Renaissance Festival Fairgrounds (the largest theme park of its kind in the nation), Middlelands is the product of old history textbooks, raw imagination, and a few thousand lasers. It’s a futuristic retreat where colorful characters, mechanical thrill rides and flashy fortresses coexist amid lush surroundings. With its larger-than-life personality, the world is just as much a character as the horde of fans getting ready to attend the festival in its inaugural year.
